Abraham and Sarah – A Model of Biblical Marriage

I. Introduction

  • The definition of a hero is "a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose.  A person noted for special achievement in a particular field."


II. The Call of Abram and Sarai (Genesis 12:1-3) 

  • They lived life in light of their mission from God – Hebrews 11:8-10; 13-16
  • To what mission has God called you? – Matthew 28:18-20


III. The Covenant of Abram with God (Genesis 15)

  • God gives Abram two promises: offspring and land – 15:1-7
  • God establishes and defines a covenant – 15:8-18
  • How does this apply to the covenant of marriage?


IV. The “Com-promise” of Abram and Sarai (Genesis 16:1-5)

  • Many times God’s perspective conflicts with current cultural views – Gn. 2:23-24
  • How have you compromised your covenant with God or your spouse?

V. The Character of “Abraham” and “Sarah” (Genesis 15:6 and 17:15-16)

  • God wants men of faith who believe Him! – Romans 4
  • God wants women of imperishable beauty – 1 Peter 3:1-6
  • How does your character need to grow in order to fulfill God’s call for your life?
