Series: The Heart of a Worshiper

Message 3: A King Who Is Awesome Yet Intimate
Psalms 139

Introduction

Main Idea: The worship of the True God by a true worshiper is by definition filled with awe and wonder, and yet in the full engagement of their soul with God, the worshiper discovers a King who desires a personal and intimate reverence.

1. The All-Knowing King is too wonderful (verses 1-6)
He sees every move
He sifts every motive
He stores every moment
He surrounds everyone

2. The All-Present King is the "hound of heaven" (verses 7-12)
Death can't hide us
Distance can't either
Ditto for darkness

3. The All-Creating King is too vast (verses 13-18)
He created us with incredible detail
He is always revealing His thoughts, always there for us

4. The All-Holy King shows us "The Way" (verses 19-24)
He defeats evil around us
He gently cleanses evil within us

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 8:38-39)

Your Personal Response:

Homework: Read Book V of the Psalms - from 107 to 150. Notice the names of God and the various expressions of praise. Read Psalms 145 to 150 to God, as loudly as you can, without stopping. What do you experience? We will study Psalm 145 next Sunday!
